Gingivitis is a type of periodontal disease that impacts the gums. Gingivitis occurs when plaque and tartar form and build up on the teeth. The bacteria in plaque and tarter can cause the teeth to decay, and the gums to become inflamed and bleed. Symptoms of Gingivitis Many people who suffer from gingivitis don’t even notice a problem until it’s too late.
