What is a Dental Onlay? A dental onlay is also known as a partial crown, and is a restorative treatment that will address problems with the bite surfaces (cusps) of a tooth. Where a filling would be used to address issues inside the tooth structure only, and a crown would be used to cover all surfaces of an entire tooth, a dental onlay is something in between.
